So I've come upon the bittersweet last day of SXSW 2012 and man oh man am I beat to shit! I wanted to recap the 2nd half of my trip to follow up the last post I put up as of Thursday night.
Huge shout outs to Shake and Meca of 2DopeBoyz for hosting an awesome event called The Dopehouse. It was basically a mixer style event with a ton of different people visiting both Friday and Saturday night. The music was dope, the people were dope and the vibe that was created was so chill in comparison to the rest of the madness that was happening. Respect.
After a pretty long Friday night, we got a bit of a late start Saturday and headed into the city in the early evening. I got to experience my first ever craw fish boil from a place called The Boiling Pot on 6th Street and holy shit it rocked my socks! So messy and so good!
After a great meal, we headed over to the Red Bull Stage on 7th to catch the mega Chicago homie DJ Big Once perform. The homie killed it and shut that stage down! We had to leave and handle some other business and I found out we missed Nas and DJ Premier as the secret guests for the night! Shit!
After handling that, we headed back over to The Dopehouse to kick it and consume numerous adult beverages. We dipped and decided to walk around 6th Street one last time before the madness ended. It was St Patty's day on Saturday and it was a straight shit fest on the strip, lol. I also got my official Texas BBQ fix at a dope spot called The Blue Ribbon on our way back to the Austin house.
Today (Sunday) we ended our day with an awesome homemade breakfast cooked for us by Martha and headed out to rock our last show at Volstead Lounge on E 7th Street. On our way to the spot, it was so weird to see 6th Street empty of people and full of cars driving around in comparison to the entire week of madness that occurred.
We arrived and the homie that booked us asked me to spin a set for an hour before our performance. The spot was low key, the people showed love for my set and we rocked our performance. It was definitely a perfect way to end our SXSW ventures.
After an amazing week, it's about that time for me to start packing my stuff and getting ready for a 3:30pm flight back to Chi city tomorrow afternoon. This was my 2nd year performing and generally attending SXSW and I had so much fun! I made a lot of crucial connections and new friends, I was able to spin my first ever dj sets out here, I got to rock 3 great shows with my brother from another, Scheme, I got to try a ton of amazing food and I got to be part of an unmatched vibe that is, SXSW. Thank you to Ralph, Martha and Juan for not only allowing us to stay at their house all week, but for going above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of during our entire stay! Thank you to the lovely people of Austin, TX for allowing us visitors to take over your city for a week. It's been another amazing year, but I'm ready to get back to the Shoebox and get to work on everything I have in front of me. Until next year ATX! Peace!
